DNA Day Event Held (April 25, 2025)

The discovery of DNA, one of the cornerstones of genetic science, was commemorated through a meaningful event organized by the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University. Spearheaded by the Genetics and Science Club (AlGeBi), the DNA Day Event aimed to foster scientific awareness among young individuals and to instill the excitement of science at an early age.

Our event was honored by the participation of our Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Atıf Bayramoğlu and Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karahan, the Dean of the Rafet Kayış Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Erhan Cengiz, and our Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Topcu.

Sixth-grade students from Alanya Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Secondary School embarked on a scientific journey with a presentation held in our university’s conference hall, where they learned about the structure and significance of DNA. The students had the opportunity to explore our faculty and were introduced to the hands-on aspects of science in the laboratory environment. Guided by our academic staff and student members of AlGeBi, they experienced the thrill of observing DNA with the naked eye and examined their own cells under the microscope—realizing just how close science is to their everyday lives. Moreover, by measuring the pH levels of common beverages, they discovered that science is not merely an abstract concept but a dynamic reality that touches every aspect of life.

This special day, which sparked curiosity for science in young minds, provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage with science in a university setting. As the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, we remain committed to expanding our efforts to spread the light of science to all segments of society.
