DNA Day Event Held
The discovery of DNA, one of the cornerstones of genetic science, was commemorated with a meaningful event organized by the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University. Led by the Genetics and Science Club (AlGeBi), the DNA Day Event aimed to foster scientific awareness among young individuals and to inspire enthusiasm for science from an early age.
Our Vice Rectors, Prof. Dr. Atıf Bayramoğlu and Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karahan, along with the Dean of Rafet Kayış Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Erhan Cengiz, and Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Topcu, also attended the event and lent their support.
Sixth-grade students from Alanya Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Middle School embarked on a scientific journey through a presentation on the structure and significance of DNA, held in our university’s conference hall. The students had the opportunity to explore our faculty and were then introduced to the tangible side of science in the laboratory. Guided by our faculty members and AlGeBi club members, the students experienced the excitement of observing DNA with the naked eye and examining their own cells under a microscope—an experience that brought science closer to their everyday lives. Additionally, they measured the pH levels of beverages commonly consumed in daily life, realizing that science is not merely an abstract concept, but a living reality that touches every aspect of life.
This special day, which sparked curiosity about science in young minds, provided students with the opportunity to engage with science in a real university atmosphere. As the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, we remain committed to spreading the light of science to all segments of society through our ongoing outreach efforts.
