DNA Day Event Was Held

The discovery of DNA, one of the cornerstones of genetic science, was commemorated with a meaningful event organized by the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University. The DNA Day Event, led by the Genetics and Science Club (AlGeBi), aimed to create scientific awareness among young individuals and ignite the excitement of science at an early age.

Our Vice Rectors, Prof. Dr. Atıf Bayramoğlu and Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karahan, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Erhan Cengiz, and the Vice Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Topcu, attended the event to show their support.

Sixth-grade students from Alanya Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Middle School embarked on a scientific journey through a presentation on the structure and significance of DNA in the university's conference hall. After getting the chance to explore our faculty, the students were introduced to the tangible side of science in a laboratory setting. Under the guidance of faculty members and AlGeBi club students, the students experienced the excitement of observing DNA with the naked eye and examined their own cells under a microscope, realizing how close science truly is to them. They also experienced science as a living reality, not just an abstract concept, by measuring the pH levels of beverages, which are part of their daily lives.

This special day, which sparked curiosity about science in young minds, provided students with the opportunity to meet science in the university environment. As the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, our efforts to bring the light of science to all segments of society will continue to grow.
